Wednesday, October 31 - Washington, DC / Across the Atlantic. Depart Washington, DC today on board your overnight transatlantic jet flight to Venice, arriving the following day. En route, enjoy dinner and also a breakfast before landing.
Thursday, November 1 - Venice. Your exciting adventure begins as you arrive in Venice. Transfer to your hotel. Balance of the day at leisure. (D)
Friday, November 2 - Venice. Start your day with a sightseeing tour of Venice, built on 118 small islands lying some four kilometers from the mainland. Venetian highways are made of water and numerous picturesque bridges link the islands. Highlights include St. Mark's Square, the Byzantine Basilica San Marco, the Palace of the Doges and the Bridge of Sighs. Leisure time this afternoon for shopping, exploring, taking an optional gondola ride, or relaxing at an outdoor trattoria. (B,D)
Saturday, November 3 - Venice/Pisa/Florence. Today's drive takes you through the serene Tuscan countryside to Pisa where you will view the famous Leaning Tower. Continue to Florence, the cradle of Renaissance Art and former stronghold of the infamous Medici family. From Botticelli to Da Vinci, the city is unsurpassed in art treasures and the glory of its history. Continue to your hotel for overnight. (B,D)
Sunday, November 4 - Florence. Your morning sightseeing tour takes you to the Piazza della Signoria where the Neptune Fountain stands, the Santa Croce Church, and the Baptistry with its renowned "Gates of Paradise" doors. Be sure to look for Biotto's Bell Tower! To top it all, see Michelangelo's original statue of David at the Academia. In your free afternoon, you may shop along the famous Ponte Vecchio or explore other Florentine delights. (B,D)
Monday, November 5 - Florence/Sorrento Area. Say good-bye to Florence as you travel south today through the well-tilled fields and orchards of the Neapolitan countryside. Continue to the cliff-top town of Sorrento. Overnight in the Sorrento area. (B,D)
Tuesday, November 6 - Sorrento/Amalfi Coastline/Sorrento. Today's scenery is breathtaking as you travel along the magnificent Amalfi coastline. Sheer cliffs and hillsides, olive, lemon and orange trees and spectacular views of the Mediterranean make this one of Italy's greatest treasures. Return to Sorrento where you will see a wood carving display (Intarsia). Free time to stroll about or shop for fine linens and ceramics. (B,D)
Wednesday, November 7 - Sorrento/Pompeii/Rome. Depart this morning for Pompeii, a city destroyed by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in the year 79 A.D. Visit the excavations where the life of 20 centuries ago comes alive with its incredibly preserved temples, baths, theaters and many dwellings.
Follow the Autostrada del Sole speedway across Roman countryside en route to the unforgettable and Eternal City of Rome. Located in the center of the Region of Lazio, Rome is a reflection of every era. The wonders of Rome surround you...a world of art, history and culture that has been attracting visitors since the beginning of Western civilization. (B,D)
Thursday, November 8 - Rome. Your sightseeing tour this morning takes you to Vatican City. See the wonderful art treasures in the Vatican Museum and Gallery and Raphael's Rooms. View Michelangelo's magnificent frescoes in the Sistine Chapel including the famous Last Judgment and The Creation of Man. This afternoon tour the remnants of "Ancient" Rome. Visit the Colosseum that once held 50,000 spectators, and see romantic Trevi Fountain. (B)
Friday, November 9 - Rome. Enjoy a full day at leisure in fascinating Rome. You may venture to some of the city's 400 churches, stroll along the Via Veneto, go underground to explore the Catacombs, people-watch around the famous Spanish Steps, or relax at a trattoria...the day is entirely yours to explore the city on your own. Saturday, November 10 - Rome/Washington D.C. Bid farewell to Rome as you board your return flight to Washington, D.C., arriving the same day. (B)
